Love Your Husbands
Wives are commanded to love their husbands: John 13:34-35, 1 Corinthians 13, Matthew 22:39, Titus 2:5
Agape (noun), Agapeo (verb) - Greek word for love; a choice and action, sacrificial, thinking of others above ourselves, a love extended to our enemies, love extended to our neighbor; Christ’s love for us; God’s love

Three Things that Hinder our Love for our Husbands
No. 1 Thinking unbiblical and wrong thoughts
If godly love is primarily a choice and not feeling, we need to think about it objectively, not subjectively. It’s why we need scripture, because scripture continually renews our minds and transforms it. And as our minds are transformed our behavior it follows. Love is not a passive thing, and we will not become better at loving if we are not self controlled in our thinking.
No. 2 Selfishness
We live in a hedonistic narcissistic culture which teaches self-love and promotes to obey thy self over all things. Contrast that with 1 Corinthians 13 that love does not seek it’s own way.
Selfishness hinders us from loving our husbands, because we are only focused on loving ourselves. We are setting our hearts on the wrong thing when we are only thinking of ourselves, and our needs, or the wrong done against us.
No. 3 Bitterness
Bitterness usually stems from taking into account wrong suffered from our husbands. We need to be careful that no root of bitterness springs up in us, Hebrews tells us that bitter roots spring up cause trouble and defile many.
Proving Faithful in Loving our Husbands
Walk in humility
Walk in forgiveness and a desire for restoration
Renew your mind with the Word
Think biblical thoughts
Go to church and be in community

Lamentation 3:22-23
Every morning God’s mercies are new for you. New mercies, new songs to sing.
Charles Spurgeon Morning and Evening Devotion Psalm 138
The time when Christians begin to sing in the ways of the Lord is when they first lose their burden at the foot of the Cross. Not even the songs of the angels seem so sweet as the first song of rapture which gushes from the inmost soul of the forgiven child of God. You know how John Bunyan describes it. He says when poor Pilgrim lost his burden at the Cross, he gave three great leaps, and went on his way singing:
"Blest Cross! blest Sepulchre! blest rather be
The Man that there was put to shame for me!"
Believer, do you recollect the day when your fetters fell off? Do you remember the place when Jesus met you, and said, "I have loved thee with an everlasting love; I have blotted out as a cloud thy transgressions, and as a thick cloud thy sins; they shall not be mentioned against thee any more forever." Oh! what a sweet season is that when Jesus takes away the pain of sin. When the Lord first pardoned my sin, I was so joyous that I could scarce refrain from dancing. I thought on my road home from the house where I had been set at liberty, that I must tell the stones in the street the story of my deliverance. So full was my soul of joy, that I wanted to tell every snow-flake that was falling from heaven of the wondrous love of Jesus, who had blotted out the sins of one of the chief of rebels. But it is not only at the commencement of the Christian life that believers have reason for song; as long as they live they discover cause to sing in the ways of the Lord, and their experience of his constant lovingkindness leads them to say, "I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth." See to it, brother, that thou magnifiest the Lord this day.
"Long as we tread this desert land,
New mercies shall new songs demand.”

What Unifies Believers?
We are united by and around the person of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Jesus Christ is THE Savior (one and only).
Jesus Christ character: always existed, took on flesh and blood, born of a virgin, was fully God and fully man, obeyed the law perfectly, was crucified as a sinless Savior, died, and rose again.
Jesus Christ is preeminent: superior
Christ is superior because He has always existed
Christ is superior because He created all things and He created them for Himself
Christ is superior because He is holy/sinless
Christ is superior because He is head of the Church
Christ is superior because He had dominion over death
Jesus Christ saves the wretched (which we all were - Ephesians 2:1-10)
Jesus Christ saves us into the Body of Christ (Ephesians 2:11-22)
All believers have the Holy Spirit sealing us for redemption
What Does NOT Unify Believers?
Lies
Progressive agenda
Self- help and a self worship
Greed, idolatry, sexual sin
Darkness
Any sin!
If the church or a christian is embracing or accepting things that are not biblical, that depart from historic orthodox Christianity and depart from foundational truths like the atonement for sins through Christ’s blood alone, and that everyone is born sinful in need of a savior, there will be division.
Why Does Jesus Pray for us to be One?
This is Jesus’s prayer of unity:
John 17:20-23
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.”
Unity of believers testifies to the glory and power of the Savior who was sent to die for sinners. It testifies to the love of God for those who repent of sin. Unity is a testimony of the ONE Savior and ONE Gospel. And we are unified in Christ and around Christ and because of Christ.
Watch out for Syncretism
Syncretism is a blending, or combining or attempt to combine different religions, cultures, schools of thought together.
Some Christians, for many reasons, but one of them being a fear of being decisive or unloving (because the new definition of loving is acceptance and endorsement), have combined other beliefs that have nothing to do with true biblical Christianity. But when we do this, we are distorting the Gospel of Jesus Christ and really what is being put forth to the world under the name Christianity, has moved away from the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Hold The Line
Jesus is the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12
What accord has Christ with Belial (Satan)? 2 Corinthians 6:15

Judgement Scriptures
For 23 years Jeremiah prophesied coming judgement and called on God’s people in Judah and Jerusalem to repent. They did not listen.
The sins that lead to judgement:
King Manasseh of Judah: 2 Kings 21, Jeremiah 15
False prophets and priests: Jeremiah 20
The people’s sins: Jeremiah 7,8,9
“Truth has perished. It has been cut off from their lips.” Jeremiah 7:28
The judgement: for the cities of Judah and Jerusalem to be destroyed; God’s people taken captive to Babylon, and others to die by sword, famine, and pestilence.
Even So . . .
God still did not forget His people. He promised the Righteous Branch would come (Jesus Christ) and He promised that even His people would return to the promised land and prosper once again in 70 years.
“We are not seeing terrible things in our culture because we vote the wrong way. We are seeing terrible things in our culture because me love darkness rather than light.” - Voddie Baucham
Our Nation (America):
Murdered 42.7 million babies last year in the womb
Pastors of churches welcoming in idols and praise abominable things
Letting children mutilate themselves to change their God-given sex
Acceptance of perversion and pornography
Theft through taxes
Judgement is purifying for the church because it exposes evil things and opens eyes up to what is good. It’s done purposefully for God’s people to repent and turn back to the Lord.
Our Job:
repent of our own idols
share the Gospel of truth
don’t decorate truth with counterfeit pearls
go to church - in person
practice hospitality
feed your people - with the Scriptures and with food
Trust in the Lord
pray for our nation
pray for our leaders to repent
get married
make babies
be merry

Christmas Hymn History
Why we sing:
Instructed to in Scripture
Ephesians 5
Colossians 3
James 5
Lifts our spirits
Martin Luther said “Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful present God has given us.”
Singing is Warfare
Worship helps us in our fight against sin, false teachings, and cultural relativism and immorality.
Singing hymns songs and spiritual songs with a good theology, truths about our living God, this builds up our theology.
Singing worship helps us fight against our own sin in many ways. It says our hearts and minds on things above and not on earthly things. It reminds us of what the truth is so we can evaluate the things that are distracting us from God.

Ways to Keep Christ at the Center of Christmas
Prayer
Martin Luther said once "“Work, work from early until late. In fact, I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.” Luther said this when responding to a question about what his plans for the day were.”
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” - Matthew 26:41
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18
Ponder Scripture
People wondered and Mary pondered.
“When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. - Luke 2:15-19
Practice Contentment & Thankfulness
These are the teachable moments that teach us to stop and give thanks to God for what He HAS given us and praise His name that we have everything we need for life and godliness and that we are reconciled to Him and that is the greatest gift of all.
Think Upon the Loveliness of Christ
“He bride eyes not her garment,
but her dear bridegroom's face;
I will not gaze at glory,
but on my King of grace;
not at the crown he gifteth,
but on his piercèd hand:
the Lamb is all the glory
of Emmanuel's land.”

Boniface Option
Two sources of text in this episode:
Trials and Triumph by Richard Hannula - stories of Christians in history (available on amazon and at Canonpress.com)
An article written by a pastor and shared on Twitter: https://twitter.com/BonifaceOption
“Thor’s oak wasn’t felled because Boniface got the pagans to like him and think he was a pretty cool guy. These people hated him and his God. Thor’s Oak was felled because of the truth — that Jesus Christ is God, Thor is not. We have to learn not to care what unbelievers, people who are going to spend eternity in hell for their hatred of God, think. We ought not to care what their opinion of is. These are people who desperately need to hear the truth. The truth about a God-man who was murdered for speaking the truth. We have to understand, every unbeliever would have killed Jesus if they had the chance. What is sin if not attempted deicide, after all? Yet the Lord loved them and gave His life for them. As He was going through the agony of the cross at any instant with a single word He could have eviscerated those responsible for His murder. Instead, He forgave them.” - @BonifaceOption (pastor via Twitter)
How to Be a Boniface

Read the Bible
Teach your children the Word of God (use catechisms and song to help)

Means of Grace
2 Peter 3:17-18
You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
Means of grace are tools given to us by God to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. The foundational means of grace are: Scripture, Prayer, and The Sacraments (baptism and the Lord’s Supper).
The means of grace remind us of our own redemption, and communicate our redemption to the world which is at war with God and needs salvation. So the means of grace ministers to us inwardly and minsters to other outwardly.
Westminster Shorter Catechism
Q.88. What are the ordinary, external ways Christ uses to bring us the benefits of redemption?
A. The ordinary, external ways Christ uses to bring us the benefits of redemption are His regulations, particularly the word, sacraments, and prayer, all of which are made effective for the salvation of His chosen ones.
